Two Rooms Above the Clouds on Mount Daisen

ITADAKI Daisen occupies the top two floors of the Komorebito building, a small complex that also holds a tourist information desk and café at street level, inside Daisen-Oki National Park in western Tottori. Rather than a lobby-and-corridor hotel, it is built as two private rooms only, one furnished in a Western style and the other splitting Japanese and Western elements, each with its own bath, heating and a balcony angled toward the coast. On a clear day, that balcony frames Mount Daisen behind you and the Sea of Japan and Yonago city ahead, a view most properties in this ski region cannot offer from indoors.

Why It Works

We chose this villa because it solves the usual trade-off of a ski stay: either a large resort hotel with little privacy, or a rental with no service at all. Two rooms only means guests effectively have the top floors to themselves, and a private chef can be arranged to cook in-room instead of booking a fixed restaurant seating. The front desk downstairs still handles ski, bike and golf rentals, so the privacy of a villa comes without losing the convenience of a staffed property, and the small scale means requests get personal attention rather than being routed through a full-size hotel's departments.

Why This Location

Daisen-Oki National Park gives direct access to skiing and hiking on Mount Daisen itself, western Japan's tallest peak, while the same building's ground-floor tourist desk keeps the wider Daisen-cho area, from soba fields to the Sea of Japan coastline, easy to plan without a car-based itinerary. The sea-facing balconies are the area's rare combination: mountain skiing with an ocean view on the way down, and the drive to Yonago city or the coast takes a fraction of the time it would from resorts deeper in the mountains.

Two Rooms, Two Different Moods

The Western-style room keeps to a conventional bed-and-seating layout for guests who want a straightforward suite, while the Japanese-Western hybrid room mixes tatami-adjacent touches with Western furniture for a stay that still nods to the region. Both share the same top-floor position and sea-facing balcony, so the choice comes down to sleeping preference rather than any real difference in outlook or comfort, and either works equally well as a base for a multi-day ski trip or a shorter coastal detour.

Skiing, Soba and What the Front Desk Arranges

Ski and bike rental, golf arrangements and horse riding are all bookable through the ground-floor desk, which keeps the villa's privacy from turning into isolation. The paid soba-making session stands out among the options: a hands-on link to Tottori's food culture that most ski-focused stays in the area skip entirely, and a natural way to spend a non-ski afternoon without leaving the building. Guests can also fall back on the café downstairs for a quick meal between activities rather than driving out for every coffee.

Before You Book

With only two rooms, ITADAKI Daisen suits couples or a single family rather than groups, and its appeal is strongest for guests planning to split time between the slopes and the coast rather than skiing exclusively. Anyone wanting daily housekeeping or a full restaurant on-site should treat this as a private villa first and a hotel second: the trade-off is exactly what makes the balcony view and the in-room chef option possible, and it is worth booking well ahead given how few rooms there are to go around.
